The state of Tennessee was founded by the Spanish explorer Hernando de Soto in 1540. It is located in the Central United States and is geographically divided into three parts: the Mississippi and Tennessee Rivers form the western region, the creeks and rolling plains form the central region, and the Great Smoky Mountains form the eastern region.
