The lower Mississippi River Valley was one of the most critical theatres of the American Civil War. Battles raged across fields now growing cotton, corn, and soybeans. Minnie balls, cannon shells, and similar items are plowed up from time to time. Ten thousand soldiers of the Confederate Army surrendered at Tiptonville. The Battle of Island No. Ten was fought eight miles north of Tiptonville. |
